HEAD DESIGNER, HALSEA
After spending the last decade designing accessories for surf apparel giants such as Roxy, Volcom, Modern Amusement and Paul Frank, Sally Bartz knows what makes a brand resonate with customers. With her new company Halsea, she is now catering to the gals who have moved-on and moved-up from the teenage surf/skate market... women who want sophisticated, casual beach style and embrace laid-back luxury.
"I'd like for someone to see a Halsea item, and wonder if it was a hand-me-down from mom's groovier days, or if it's something new and special," says Sally. "If Lilly Pulitzer epitomized an era in Palm Beach, I'd like for Halsea to tell a story of a classic but relaxed old-school California." A UCLA Art School grad with a keen eye for the next trend, Sally uses her love of the beach and the classic, laid-back California style of the 1970's as the backdrop for Halsea.
Sally's intent in creating Halsea is to develop a women's line that is truly Californian, inspired not by the typical images of California filled with Hollywood groupies, hippies and surf punks, but by the easy, relaxed elegance found in California's beach communities that evolved from weekend getaways into a way of life. The Halsea woman maintains her casual, yet sophisticated style wherever she goes. Halsea offers a wide selection of travel essentials that modern women need to travel in style. These items are available in three coordinating prints, and a total of six color options – we encourage mixing!
CHINA COVE, a seashell print, is a graphic representation of the countless shell collections gathered throughout Sally's youth. CRESCENT BAY, a rope lattice-like print, is interspersed with buoyant seahorses and coral. BOAT CANYON features a pattern of crabs climbing on a pattern of tangled rope. The colorful ocean-inspired patterns lend a beach-y tone to the beautifully constructed styles, while the pink satin lining and pockets galore give each piece a feminine touch. Custom Halsea zipper pulls and finishing touches in leather and cotton make each piece timeless and brilliantly functional.
Raised by art lovers in Corona del Mar, California, Sally attributes her eye for color, pattern and design to her parents who exposed her to the visual world from a young age. Sally currently makes her home in Costa Mesa, California where she lives with her husband and two small children.
